There is a fancy Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco that is legendary for this insanely delicious dish, but it is not the kind of thing you really want to eat in public. It is far more enjoyable to wear comfy clothes and get garlic butter up to your elbows in the privacy of your own home.
Since the local crabbing season usually begins in December, this has become a favorite dish to make and enjoy for a stay-at-home holiday like New Years Eve (or Day).
